Safety in the workplace is an important issue and should be addressed at every workplace. It is vital that the safety of employees is held to the highest standard. High safety standards ensure employees feel secure while working. Less accidents and injuries at the workplace relates to less workman’s compensation cases and higher productivity. It may also attribute to a higher rate of productivity and profit margin.
Equipment used in the workplace should be monitored for defects and inspected on a regular basis to ensure it is maintained in compliance with manufacturer’s recommended specifications. Oftentimes, this is regulated by OSHA as well as other regulatory offices assigned to oversee the safety of specific industries. An example of a commonly used piece of equipment which may not be scrutinized as much as other types of equipment is utility knives. It is imperative that even equipment as small as utility knives is inspected and that employees have been given instruction or training in the correct way to use them to minimize the chance of injuries.
